It took years of legal tangling, but finally earlier this year a judge ruled that property on the harbor at the end of South Avenue was rightfully owned by the Town Of Oriental. In August the fence came down, and since then there have been multiple operations to clean it up. First with heavy machinery – and more recently citizen volunteers got together to further the clean up. What the town will do with the harborfront property is now a subject of discussion. Some folks hope for a dock – a second Town Dock for example.

It may need a name. Many of us have taken the concept of a park and combined it with South Avenue. It just flows off your tongue… South Park.
