Every year the Croaker Festival creates a new theme and a logo to go with it. This year it is “Croaker Doodle Dandy” (coming up with a new theme every year that somehow includes both a croaker and patriotism ain’t easy). Croaker Festival volunteer Janet Alexander is the theme’s author. The next thing needed was the 2008 logo… it goes on the t-shirt and used for publicity. The Croaker Festival team turned to local artist Laura Turgeon, whose drawings are featured on TownDock.net. Laura’s eye put a feather in a croaker’s cap, swimming with a dragon. This month for the first part of July TownDock.net features the 2008 Croaker Festival drawing… it’s a “Croaker Doodle Dandy”.
At right the Provision Company’s Loren Bell models the 2008 Croaker Festival t-shirt, this year also available as a tank top. Get one at Marsha’s Cottage, Paddle Pamlico, Inland Waterway Provision Company, The Hungry Dragon and Croakertown. Also available during the festival at the Croaker Festival booth across from Lou Mac Park.
| Laura Turgeon and her husband Gil Fontes live in Oriental. When they are not out looking at boats Laura and Gil are often seen with drawing instruments or paint brushes in hand. More of Laura's work can be found at her site LauraTurgeon.com. |
