Artist Laura Turgeon is Drawing The Town

The Hot Dog Days Of August
August 2008

The dog days of summer. Hot. Sultry. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says the Dog Days are the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11. In the 1800’s the dog days of summer were “when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing to man burning fevers, hysterics, and phrensies”.

Perhaps there is a bit of that around the village, but for the most part, it is a time to take it just a bit slower.

One of the summer scenes that makes artist Laura Turgeon smile is the Barking Dog Hot Dog Stand, run by Roland & Jennifer Pare. This summer drawing captures the Barking Dog stand at the Town & Country parking lot, Roland preparing a hot dog for a fine dining experience (just ask for the mustard, relish, ketchup, onions to y’all’s liking). The drawing also captures the late great dog Bosun, who for so long enjoyed being the official Barking Dog mascot.
