A cancer support group is getting started in Pamlico County, with its first meeting on Monday June 18 at 5:30p at Oriental United Methodist Church. Based on the idea that talking things out can help, Carol Small says the group is for anyone who’s been through or is going through cancer treatment. (Spouses and friend who are helping them are also welcome.) Working name for the group is OAKS — because Carol says, “oak trees stand strong for a very long time through storms and drought and when they lose parts it doesn’t bother them.” (If you need the acronym spelled out, she says, it’s Oriental Awesome Kindred Spirits.)
