Coming Events in Oriental and in and near Pamlico County
Chinese New Year of the Rooster Dragon Run - Jan 28 2017Oriental celebrates the first day of Chinese New Year, “The Year of the Rooster”. It is Saturday January 28, 2017. The big event is the running of the Chinese Dragon – 3p on Hodges Street. But the day has several events:
- Oriental Farmers Market, Hodges Street. Peter Chang from the Great Wall Restaurant in Grantsboro demonstrates on using and cooking with a wok. Sessions at 10a & 11a.
- 3 PM there will be a Dragon Run on Hodges Street welcoming in “The Year of the Rooster”. Bring your pots and pans and make some noise.
Restaurants and The Pig are joining in, adding special menu items for the day:
- Toucan – Kung Pao Chicken – infused with naturally brewed soy sauce, honey, garlic and sesame oil & topped with peanuts and green onions
- M&Ms – Sushi. Try the Dragon Boat Combo. Sushi rolls, sashimi & more.
- O’Town – Sweet and Sour Chicken accompanied with fried rice and egg roll
- Brantleys – Chinese Dumplings (Pot Stickers) with rice and stewed vegetables
- Piggly Wiggly Dragon Cafe – Teriyaki Chicken with rice
FYI, in 2011, Oriental held its first dragon run to mark the Chinese/Asian Lunar New Year.)
