Coming Events in Oriental and in and near Pamlico County

  • Last summer, Oriental resident Dave Cox brought a lawsuit against the Town of Oriental over the landswap that would give up public right of way access to the waters on the Oriental harbor. His complaint: that the Town can’t exchange or sell a right of way. Now, The Town of Oriental is asking Superior Judge Ben Alford to dismiss the lawsuit. That motion-to-dismiss will be heard on Monday, March 4 in the courtroom in Bayboro. 10a is the start time for the session. The Clerk of Court says the Oriental case could start right away or be placed on the calendar after other shorter cases are heard; that’ll be determined at 10a. The courtroom is open to the public.
