Grammy nominee *Kate McGarry and her band, The Tough Get Growing Ensemble take the stage of Oriental’s Old Theater on Saturday, Feb 25, 2017

Mixing folk and Celtic singing styles with jazz and improv chops, they put new spins on standards from the Great American Songbook as well as works by artists such as Leonard Cohen, The Blue Nile, Paul Simon, the Eagles. The Wall Street Journal described her music as, “austere and elegant”. The New York Times: “astute and sensitive.” “A voice that,” as Icon magazine put it, “soars with abundant hope.” Last summer, critics polled by Downbeat Magazine named Kate McGarry the #1 Rising Star Female Vocalist.

Kate McGarry and The Tough Get Growing Ensemble will also be presenting an Informance — free and open to the public — at 1:30p the same day – Saturday February 25 – at O’Town Pub in Oriental. Both events are presented by the Pamlico Musical Society.
