In late July of 2016, Billy Flockhart opened his Pigggly Wiggly grocery store in Oriental. The day it opened – July 27th – was a big deal in town; Oriental had been without a grocery store for months. Billy is celebrating the first year with a bang. The 1 year celebration ceremony is Thursday July 27 high noon at The Pig. Good reason to come out before that as there’ll be live music too, arranged by the Ol’ Front Porch Music Fest folks. From 10-10:45a – it’ll be the Gospel Ensemble from Pierce Chapel and Pilgrim Chapel and now expanding to include Broad Creek UCC. Then, from 11–11:45a, the Appalachian gospel duo Higher Ground performs.
