Summer Solstice/Full Moon Paddle June 20 2016

On the night of 2016’s Summer Solstice, sunset is at 8:23p. Moonrise is just 8 minutes later at 8:31p. It’ll be a full moon – first of the summer — which leads to an opportunity. With a forecast for mainly clear skies, some local paddlers are planning a short trip to the Oriental seawall to take in the view of the full moon rising over town. They’ll meet at 7:3op at the Oriental Wildlife Ramp, put in there and paddle out to the seawall at about 8p.

If you are considering joining us, plan on wearing a vest and bringing a whistle and a white flashlight, chemlight or headlamp. This will be launching at twilight and returning in the dark. If you haven’t paddled in the dark it is a little different both in sensory perception and positional awareness. This, however, is a short paddle with good shore lighting. It can be a great introduction.
