Oriental’s Town Hall says there will be a specially-called Town Board meeting on Monday, October 29 at 5p. The subject of the meeting is the fire siren that has been behind Town Hall for more than half a century. It was taken down a few months ago, while the building was being rebuilt. The siren’s been refurbished by volunteer firemen, and the Fire Department wants it to return to where it was, behind Town Hall. The Fire Dept says the Town Manager has told them he wants to put the siren on the lot near the Oriental Woman’s Club on Gilgo Rd. A number of neighbors on and near Gilgo oppose that move.

A Friday afternoon statement from Town Hall says the purpose of the October 29 meeting is “to discuss the siren location, cost, and logistics.” Meeting takes place at the First Baptist Church across Broad Street from Town Hall. It is open to the public.
