A special meeting has been called for Oriental’s Town Board at 8a on Thursday February 16 2017. The one topic for discussion is what position the Town will take on a CAMA major permit Chris Fulcher needs for a 300-ton 45-foot tall TravLift that would extend 100 feet in to Oriental’s harbor.

In October, the Town Board granted the fishing businessman a Special Use Permit – with conditions – for the proposed land-based washdown that the TravLift would haul trawers to. The SUP was contingent on CAMA granting a permit. On February 10, the Town, as the only official adjacent property owner, received notification that Fulcher was applying for the CAMA permit. The notification does not include an elevation diagram; the proposed changes in the harbor are described in narrative form. The Town has 10 days from receipt of the letter to state whether it has any objections. Thursday’s meeting is open to the public.

If CAMA determines that the Fulcher permit application is complete, the public will have a 75 day window in which to individually submit comments to CAMA.
