SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING

Oriental’s Town Board meets on Tuesday August 7 at 7p at the First Baptist Church, across Broad Street from Town Hall. On the agenda, which is available by clicking here, is an annexation request from a property owner. As for the proposal to give up the South Avenue right-of-way at the harbor as part of a land swap, Mayor Bill Sage said at as of the agenda-setting meeting on August 3, no appraisal of the land had yet come in. He hoped it would be in by meeting time. At the agenda-meeting there was also discussion about limiting spending on a second police vehicle to $25,000.
Look for the Town Board to continue a discussion (from the Agenda meeting) about the Town Hall renovation. The Town Manager, Bob Maxbauer, who is serving as general contractor for the project, informed the Board on August 3 that the plans for a porch and gazebo on the Broad Street side of the structure would extend “approximately 4 feet” into the setback. He said he wanted to pour the concrete for that in coming days and asked that the Board use a clause in the GMO that would allow that exception to the setback rules since some neighboring structures also extend in to the setback. Some on the Board noted that to get an exception to the setback rule, a public hearing would have to be held, as would be the case for any private property owner. More discussion on the matter may be expected at the August 7 meeting. The Board has already voted to spend $289,656 on the Town Hall renovation in this fiscal year.
