Letters: Ferry Tolls, Ferry Tax Round Two
For Whom Do The Tolls Toll
March 22, 2013

To the Editor:

I have a question to the community. I have wondered if anyone has proposed a compromise to ferry tolls?

As a visitor to the area and not a full-time resident (although we moor our boat there), I am very willing to pay a fare to use the ferry. Could not local residents of Craven and Pamlico Counties, be given a pass in the form of a sticker for free use of the ferry while visitors pay a toll?

The local community often relies on the system for their daily lives, for visitors like me, it’s just a convenience and sometimes just a novelty. Something we should pay for. Seems fair to me.

(Editor’s Note: In the course of reporting the ferry toll issue last year, an NC DOT official told TownDock.net that federal law prevents giving a reduced rate to some based on where they live.
