Art On The Neuse 2013
Photos From The 10th Annual Arts FestivalMay 15, 2013
In 2004, a handful of artists in Oriental had the idea to hold a springtime arts fest. They called it Art on the Neuse and despite some winds those first first few years at Lou Mac Park, it took hold. So much so that on Saturday May 11, the Tenth Annual Art on the Neuse Festival featured forty artists and their works on the Oriental Harbor. Hundreds of people attended.“Blue Reflections”, an original painting by Charlotte Garrett was on display. The painting of trawlers was used in a commemorative poster for this year’s Art on the Neuse. The artists with work on display came from Pamlico County, elsewhere in NC and beyond. There were paintings, pottery, photography, paper art, glass art to name just a few of the media represented.

Lee has spent many weekends this year at the Town Dock creating paintings of boats on the harbor. He directed his attention away from the harbor because he says, one boat may belong to one person, but the Bean belongs to everyone.A few years ago, the Pamlico County Arts Council stepped in to organize Art on the Neuse. This year for the first time, the Arts Council created commemorative posters for the event – featuring a painting by Charlotte Garrett – and sold them as a fundraiser for the Council’s work in supporting the arts. (Some of them are still available.)
