Classic Cars Gather in Oriental for 3rd Year
2017 Oriental Classic Car Show Has Its Own Day
October 17, 2017

O
riental’s 2017 Classic Car show was a standalone event for the first time in it’s three year history. Held concurrently with Ol’ Front Porch Music Festival in the past, organizers ran into a snag this year. Unable to secure the usual event area, they decided to hold it one week later.

It worked… Sam Myers, organizer of the event, said 75 cars registered. The day was overcast and the rain held off. Dolphins in the Neuse even swam by for a view.

Saltwater Gold played on the porch of Kip Fairbank. The Rotary served up breakfast sandwiches and hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. Raffles were held throughout the day and a 50/50 raffle was held at the end. Frank Roe, winner of the 50/50, donated his winnings back to Rotary.

A 1934 Frazier-Nash was the oldest entry. A 2018 mini-van was the newest. American-made muscle cars parked next to sleek, European sport models. A few entries, like the ’89 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, were all original with no restoration.

Two motorcycles showed up and the bike class was created. Sam invited more to register for next year’s show. There were 13 categories outside of Kid’s Choice and Best in Show, two winners in each given enough cars registered to fill the category.
