Ice Encases Village
A New Midwinter Look

ce enveloped Oriental and Pamlico County this week. Underfoot — and under tires — the ice could be treacherous, but to the eyes it gave a new look to the usually understated winter landscape. Trees showed off their form with the new varnish in place, aided by the sub freezing temps.

The dragon’s nose knows.. and pointing in to the wind, confirms that winds out of the north were bringing more ice-encasing cold to the Duck Pond and the rest of Oriental and Pamlico County.

At the edge of the Town-n-Country parking lot, an apricot tree had flowered last week. This week, it took on a coating of ice, though the pink-pale orange petals showed through.
