Pamlico Community College Announces 6 Finalists
Public Invited to Meet College President Candidates
April 20, 2009

P
amlico Community College today announced the six finalists for the PCC President’s job and said that all six would be traveling to the school soon to meet the public and take part in face-to-face interviews with the college’s Board of Trustees.

It is the Board of Trustees who will choose the successor to Marion Altman, who retires in June after serving as the PCC president since 1999.

Before winnowing the finalist pool to six, the school received 42 applications for the President’s job. Among the factors the school was seeking in its applicants were: leadership experience in colleges in rural communities such as Pamlico County, and a track record of moving into more challenging positions within the schools where the applicants worked, preferably as president or by reporting directly to the president or the board.

While the choice is up to the Board of Trustees, the public is invited to take part in the meetings that are being set up for each of the candidates.

Bob Lyon, chairman of the Board of Trustees, says that he hopes the public will come to the college’s Delamar Center and meet with the candidates. The presidential hopefuls will be paying separate visits starting April 30 and running through May 7.

“We look forward to meeting our finalists, and we sincerely hope the public will come out to the college to meet and talk with the candidates,” added Lyon.

The “Meet and Greet” sessions with the public will be from 2:30-3:30p on the following dates:

  • Thursday, April 30 – Dr. Ray Taylor
  • Friday, May 1 – Dr. Cleve Cox
  • Monday, May 4 – Dr. Susan Karr
  • Tuesday, May 5 – Dr. Larry Kimbrow
  • Wednesday, May 6 – Dr. Kay Adkins
  • Thursday, May 7 – Dr. Stan Sidor

Following the sessions, three finalists will be selected and submitted to the state community college board for approval. From those three, one will be selected as the new PCC President by the PCC Board Of Trustees. The new President will be announced in June.
