Parrothead Regatta
Orion Leads The Way AgainJuly 27, 2008
Tarpon wasn’t the only quarry off of Oriental on Saturday. Some boats on the Neuse were chasing a chance to cross the finish line first in the Neuse River Yacht Association’s Parrothead Regatta. The race runs from New Bern to Oriental, and for the third — or fourth — year in a row, the winner was Orion, and her crew of LuAnn Parins, Mark Weinheimer and Margaret Alexander.
The winners, once more – Lu-ann Parins, Mark Weinheimer and Margaret Alexander. Mark says Lu-Ann and Margaret sailed the boat – he was just the “Snackatician”. The crew of Orion won the Parrothead Regatta from New Bern to Oriental Saturday. They are shown here at the Tarpon Tournament BBQ at Whittaker Pointe on Saturday night. The crew and their San Juan 21 set out at 11am from New Bern (Marker #17) and were first to make it to the Oriental harbor at 4:38pm. Lu-Ann and Margaret think it is the third year they’ve won (even if, as Lu-Ann notes, it was announced that this was their fourth win.)
A file photo of Orion under sail. The San Juan 21 is proof that one doesn’t need an expensive boat to enter and win races.
