Ruby throated hummingbird approaches a feeder in Jen and Neill Haggard’s yard. Because of the sub-freezing temperatures, Jen Haggard brings the feeders in at night. She then gets them out at first light to give sustenance to the trio of hummingbirds who opted to winter in Oriental — and who are likely as surprised as many residents at the amount of snow this season. The other hummingbird feeder on Tuesday was The Bean, where Christian caught up on the news with The Bean Copy of the N&O as snow fell outside. The dangling icicle light left from Christmas may be sharing space with some real icicles. Photo: Jen Haggard
