Parade goers at this year’s Spirit of Christmas parade were treated to a very loose interpretation of the Twelve Days of Christmas, Oriental style.

With the dozen drummers a no-show, the biggest entry following the parade theme was the 11 pipers piping. However, there was nary a flute in sight. These pipers instead toted smoking pipes, sported an array of bathrobe wear, and took bows to the crowds along the parade route.

The precision pivoting was still a work in progress early in the parade, on upper Broad near Village Hardware.
But by parade’s end, they were more or less in sync, if not smoking.Several other entries played on the Twelve Days of Christmas theme.
Eight Maids-A-Milking were represented by Pamlico Community College.
