Thanksgiving Bike Ride 2011
A Thursday Morning Ride Through The Village
November 25, 2011

T
here’s turkey, there’s stuffing and in Oriental, there’s the Thanksgiving Morning Bike Ride through the village. It’s a new-ish tradition, having first hit the streets of Oriental a half decade or so ago. The Thanksgiving 2011 edition drew several dozen cyclists out to pre-burn some calories.

Along South Avenue.

The route started at the Town Dock and The Bean and hugged the Oriental waterfront along South Avenue. There was a stop for a photo at Deatons — the first of three marinas/boatyards where the riders traveled. After SailCraft and Whittaker Creek Yacht Harbor they worked their way back, past the Town and County, and down Midyette Street and to the harbor.

Also part of the pack were several members of the Oriental Express Bicycle Club which reminded everyone that they go pedaling several times a week. (For more on how to join them on their rides, click here.)

Still more cyclists. Per and Marian Erichsen in the foreground.

Bikes low and high were part of the ride. Here, a clutch of cyclists heads toward Whittaker Creek Road.
The route later came down Midyette Street.

Near the watertower.
Liz Lathrop. It was the long-time Oriental resident’s first Thanksgiving Bike ride. (But she’s no stranger to a bike, as her OEBC jersey indicates.)
After the ride, near the Town Dock.

In front of the Bean, where the ride began and ended, there was time for taking photos. Cheryl Huff snapped some with her plastic-rhinestone encrusted iPhone.

For that group shot at Deaton’s, we didn’t have a wide enough lens nor enough organizational skills to get everyone arranged in a more compact manner. In an effort to show more of the cyclists, we took five photos closer in, in tryptych form. Think of it as a quintych of the trip.
