The word is in from Spirit of Christmas ParadeMeister Paul Fairbank. The theme for this year’s parade, on December 8th, will be “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
Fairbank pored over the many entries but in the end picked Debra Khouri’s, because it was the most “versatile of all Christmas parade themes.” And he added, in Meister-speak, that it “reminds us that sometimes the most obvious answer is the best answer.”
For her winning entry, Khouri will get some fresh mistletoe and dibs on riding in the Parade Theme Thinker Upper car on December 8.
For the rest of us, there is still have a chance to win … on the day of the parade. Fairbank says “recognitions of excellence” will be bestowed for each of the twelve categories — best pipers, best geese-a-laying, for example. Creative interpretations of the Twelve Days of Christmas (see below) are encouraged.
And though canines don’t figure in the song, a Best Reindeer Dog will be chosen as well.
We are told judges will be lurking in the crowds along the parade route. This year they will have more daylight with which to see the parade — it starts at 4pm rather than 4:30 as in past years.
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!
