Crabs may normally swim across the Neuse River, but on Tuesday they took a ferry ride to get to the Garland Fulcher Seafood Plant in Pamlico County. On the crossing to Minnesott Beach, James Cahoon tended to the crabs his father had caught, pushing them back under their burlap covers and keeping a wary distance from their claws. Meanwhile, up in Raleigh this week, House and Senate leaders were working out a budget that would keep this commuter ferry route toll-free for one more year.
