Dave Dutra. Husband. Father. Fisherman. Friend. Dave died Thursday morning after a battle with cancer. Dave & Judy Dutra came to Oriental on a 60 ft fishing boat last winter. Based in Provincetown MA, they were bound for Florida. They liked Oriental so much they just stopped and stayed the winter. The Dutras left many dear friends in Oriental. Our sympathies to Judy and the Dutra family.
Folks who met Captain Dave remember his smile and his distinctive voice. The Dutras departed north in late March. As they were leaving, we got a recording of Capt Dave as he was starting the fishing boat’s big diesel:
