Oriental Fire Chief Alan Arnfast and the department’s President, Henry Frazer listen at Monday’s special Town Board meeting about the fire siren. With more than 50 residents in attendance, the volunteer Fire Department countered Town Manager Bob Maxbauer’s reasons for moving the siren from its decades-long home behind Town Hall. Arnfast told the Board that he felt “blindsided” and that keeping the siren at Town Hall need not cost as much as Maxbauer claimed. Upshot of the meeting: some fire department members and the Town Manager are to follow up on the fire department’s suggestions, and report back to the Town Board at next week’s meeting.
