Grounded Ferry | July 2, 2012

Scene on board the ferry, MV Lupton near Cherry Branch after 1 this morning as a tug was pulling it free from the sand bar it hit 8 hours earlier. 12 vehicles and 26 passengers had caught the 5:25pm ferry which then got caught in Sunday afternoon’s strong winds. It went aground about 100 yards from the ferry channel’s breakwater. (Winds in Oriental at the time clocked in at 40mph.) Pizza and drinks were boated over to the passengers while they waited hours for the tug to arrive. (Photo: Laurie Sampson)
