Volunteer firefighters from Oriental and Florence-Whortonsville responded to a boat fire in Pamlico late Memorial Day afternoon. One couple who reported the fire say they were told by the 911 dispatcher that the fire was a Coast Guard matter. A fire official today says that the local fire departments definitely do respond to boat fires at docks and even when the boats are anchored out, if they’re within reach of the fire hoses.
