Known by most as “Papa Doc” – he is Dr. Richard Hudson. Hudson is retiring as Hope Clinic’s Medical Director – a position he has held since the clinic began in 1999. He was honored Tuesday by Clinic supporters – here receiving a plaque from Marge Dales. Dr. Hudson recruited a volunteer force of doctors and nurses to serve the clinic, which provides free medical care to those unable to afford it. The “Papa Doc” name? When Hudson’s grandson was born 18 years ago, Hudson’s daughter wanted something easy to say. The “Papa Doc” nickname was born – and it stuck.
