New Board Seated
December 5, 2007

A new Town Board and Mayor were sworn in Tuesday night.

New to the Town Board are Commissioners Kathy Kellam, Dave Cox and Sherrill Styron. They joined returning commissioners Nancy Inger and Candy Bohmert in taking the oath of office administered by Clerk of Superior Court, Steve Hollowell.

Earlier, Hollowell swore in Bill Sage, the new mayor, who took the place at the end of the table from which Sherrill Styron had run the meetings for the past 18 years.

Tuesday night, Styron, who chose to run as a commissioner last month and who is now the mayor-pro-tem, took a seat mid-table.

Speaking of seats..

Town Manager Wyatt Cutler announced at the end of the meeting that an anonymous donor had given the town $1000 to purchase new chairs for the audience. These would replace the metal folding chairs whose cold hard surfaces made some long meetings feel like endurance tests. Some more savvy residents have learned to bring cushions.

It was not known how many chairs the anonymous donation would buy nor how the ergonomics would compare to the cushioned seats upon which Town Commissioners, the Mayor and some Town staffers sat through meetings in recent years.

Cutler did say that the new chairs for the audience could be in place before the renovations at Town Hall next year.

The new chairs may not make the meetings shorter. They just may seem that way.
