Drive-thru ashes @ St. Thomas Episcopal

St. Thomas Episcopal Church is holding services on Ash Wednesday, February 17. Both traditional in-person worship services and two drive-thru services just for ashes for those with concerns about COVID.

Drive-thru ashes are at 1p and 5p, before and after in-person worship services at noon and 6p.

You don’t even have to get out of your car. St. Thomas Episcopal Church will offer ashes mixed with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to anyone who wishes to drive through the parking lot. The entrance is clearly marked. Turn into the driveway, meet the priest and his assistants, receive your ashes via a sterile ‘Q-tip’ and the traditional prayer, and quickly leave. (You must wear a mask or Fr. Bruce will not approach the vehicle and you will be invited to move on.)

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, six weeks before Easter, on April 4, 2021.

In-person services follow CDC and state guidelines: Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Socially distance (the sanctuary is marked for safe occupancy). No congregational singing.

Pews are separated by 6 feet, seating spaces for individuals and family units are marked. The sanctuary is treated with BioShield and the service is printed in its entirety in the bulletin. Communion is shared in one species (bread) only. St. Thomas Episcopal is at 402 Freemason St in Oriental. 252-249-0256
