Emergency Signaling Seminar Aug 5, 2017

Saturday August 5, 2017 is a seminar on emergency distress signals, starting 9a at Town Hall. It’s all about emergency signaling devices, their cost, and relative effectiveness.

After the morning classroom session, in the afternoon you get to see them in action. That’s at the Wildlife ramp by the Oriental bridge. Attendees will fire daylight-rated devices for practice and to gauge their effectiveness. After dark that evening, again at the Wildlife ramp, the session fires night-rated devices. For each outdoor session a boat stationed up the creek will shoot the same devices for comparison at a distance.

Attendees to the outdoor sessions are invited to bring any old pyrotechnics that they may have on hand. They are encouraged to bring eye protection and heavy gloves, as well as their own 12 ga. (orange plastic) and 25 mm (white metal) signaling guns.

No advance sign-up – the indoor session is first-come, first served. All are invited, this is held in cooperation with SCOO & NSA.

For those not attending the seminar, you may notice red and white flares on the ground and in the air in the vicinity of the Oriental bridge and Greens Creek in the early afternoon and evening. They are only for practice and do not represent any real emergency. Call Jim Nixon for further information on 252-670-7072 cell, 252-249-3777 home.
