Oar Race Aug 31 / Lexus Cup Sep 1The Oar Race (sponsored by Fairfield Harbor Yacht Club) is a sail race Saturday Aug 31 from New Bern to Oriental. The John Walsh Memorial Oar Race commemorates the evacuation of Dunkirk. The race trophy is an oar that was used in the evacuation. Racers are welcome to attend a cocktail/ dinner party on the lawn at the tiki bar in Oriental after the race.

The Lexus Cup (sponsored by Johnson Lexus of Raleigh and presented by NYRA) is Sunday Sept 1. This race, previously known as the Michelob cup, is a pursuit start, distance race from Oriental back to Blackbeard sailing club in New Bern. Race organizers say “the biggest party of the year will be held at the New Bern convention center following the race on Sunday evening”. Full bar, appetizers, plus a surf and turf dinner catered by “the Flame” followed by awards. Party starts @430pm.
