Just after five am this morning, a bright light lit up the sky over Oriental.

It was a rocket, launched by Space X this morning at 4:55a from Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was the 16th launch for the Falcon 9 rocket. On this trip, it carried 20 Starlink satellites, destined for low-earth orbit.

Oriental resident Jennifer Smart was out early enough to catch the launch when the rocket passed over around 5:05a.

The satellites were deployed a little after 6a this morning, joining the more than 6,100 Starlink satellites already in orbit.
SpaceX’s next planned launch is July 8; the Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch a Turkish communications satellite, again from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Launch time is to be determined.
