Heber Guthrie Skiff Donated To PCC Foundation
You Could Be The New Owner
July 10, 2018

owneast boat builder Heber Guthrie builds a skiff every year at the Oriental Boat Show. It is then raffled off as a fundraiser for the Oriental Rotary. But this year the winner of the raffle gave the boat back to the Rotary Club.

What to do?

The Oriental Rotary has donated the 17 ft skiff to the Pamlico Community College Foundation. Michelle Noevere, executive director of the PCC Foundation, says the Foundation will seek volunteers to do the cosmetic finishing on the vessel and then offer it for sale.

When Heber completes a boat (in just three days) at the show, it still needs some sanding and a coat of paint. If you’re up for that, you can make an offer on the boat, as is. Call Michelle Noevere at 252-249-1851, ext. 3084. Proceeds from the sale benefit students in the form of scholarships or education projects.

Heber says the skiff can be powered by up to a 25hp engine (or a smaller one), and is a perfect little day boat. It can be fairly deemed a one-off; a real piece of Down East culture crafted by a renowned boat builder.

You can watch this very boat being built – in under two minutes. A time lapse video of Heber Guthrie’s boat building:
