January 1 is the Instead of Football Regatta. Rain or shine, cold or warm, the regatta takes place. All boats, power or sail, can join the race. There are no scores. Winners are chosen by random at the skipper’s meeting, which takes place after the regatta.Billy Creech (and crew) on his Trimaran, Senior MomentThe regatta is open to all boats – small, large, sail, and motor.Nelda Coats, organizer of the event, counted roughly 42 boats on the water. TownDock was on the water for the event and included two Army Landing Craft (who had been at the fuel docks in the morning) and a returning fishing trawler for a total of 45 participants.
