Eighteen boats competed in the 29th Oriental Cup Regatta. Frazer, Weinheimer, Michne, and Valinoti got the first place finishes.Sandwiched between the departing Hurricane Irma and potential storms Jose and Maria, the weather for the race had winds between 5 – 15 mph. A non-sanctioned race, the Oriental Cup is held annually to raise money for the Bill Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Dinner and dancing were also part of the three day event. Local band Saltwater Gold and duo Scearce and Ketner provided music for attendees while dinner was provided by The Toucan Grill. Awards were presented to regatta winners on Sunday morning.
Eighteen vessels competed in four classes.
