oul came to Silospalooza 2018. It rained. It stopped. It rocked.

Oriental’s own one-day music festival is in it’s 6th year. Seven year olds hit the water slides and 70 year olds attacked the turkey legs. More than 30 musicians (from 7 groups) took the main stage, playing everything from folk and country to rock and soul.

The Red Rooster sits behind the Silos restaurant on the county line. Jello shots and liquor were served on the Oriental side while beer and wine were sold on the other.

Kids crowd the stage and dancers take to the grass. It’s just a few of the scenes from a day at Silospalooza.

Joe Brown & The Band took the stage before local favorites Saltwater Gold. Armed with a set of soul music, they brought the crowd to their feet, priming the audience for Saltwater Gold.

With a new lineup – Scott Finch on guitar/keyboard and Mike Ferrera on drums – Saltwater Gold opened with rock ‘n roll and kept the dancers moving until closing out the festival.

A brief cloudburst, and then it was over.

Midday rain and heat moved the crowds to the shelter and shade of the Red Rooster bar. Billy played on the Bantam stage.

Eight eaters, and one winner.

Lighthouse provided musical accompaniment for the eating contest. Last year, a few members played Silospalooza with the band Good Times.

New Bern based band Joe Brown & The Band brought soul to the stage.
