Spirit Of Christmas 2018 Parade Needs A Theme
Your creative ideas wanted
November 14, 2018

O
riental’s Spirit Of Christmas weekend this year will be Friday & Saturday December 7-8. The big event for the weekend is the Saturday afternoon Spirit Of Christmas parade. That’s 1pm on the 8th.

Every year the parade has a theme. The 2018 theme isn’t set yet – which is where your skills come into play.

Last year the theme was Christmas Buffett – Jimmy style. The 2016 parade was The Polar Express. In 2015, it was Merry Dinghy Christmas. 2014, Holidays in the Movies Before that, White Christmas, Songs of the Holidays, Christmas Around The World. It’s been 12 Days of Christmas more than once.

This dog’s Christmas fashion can change to fit your theme. The 2017 parade theme was “Christmas Buffett – Jimmy style.”

Captain Lance Burgo is the new Parade Master. He wants to kick off his Parade master reign with a great new theme.

So, put your brilliant brain to work and create the 2018 Spirit Of Christmas theme. Then email it to parade@towndock.net. Multiple entries are fine.

Winner – to be announced Monday November 26 – will get fame, accolades and the thanks of a grateful town.

Spirit of Christmas forms are here: Parade participation form, Boat Parade participation form, and Spirit of Christmas volunteer form.

Here are the parade theme entries so far (updated Wed Nov 21):

“My Favorite Christmas” – Recreate your best Christmas ever!

PLEASE … no hurricane themes. I think we’ve all had enough reminders of it along our highways and byways!

-Judi Heit

“It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…” a little long, but full of possibilities.

-Gail Watts

1 more….“Up on the Roof Tarp”

-Lili Bacon

Since we all have the post-Hurricane blues, how about:
“Blue Christmas” with a fun Elvis theme?
“Winter Waterfront” (since our waterfront needs some serious love)
I also liked someone’s idea of “Deck the Hulls”…

- Lili Bacon

“Gingerbread Christmas”
“Christmas in the Garden”

- Tracy Peterson

“Thankful for Hurricane Relief Christmas”

- Betty Brown

Snowballs and Christmas Trees…..lots of snow themes….what every kid wants on Christmas Day!

- Kathie Mau

“March of the Toy Soldiers”
“Home is Where the Hearth is”

“Believe!”

Nutcracker Suite based on the ballet and Disney’s Fantasia animation. ie “dance of the flowers”, the mushrooms, etc. each group could be different theme, then there’s mouse king, and the nutcracker, and so on.

“Carol of the Bells”
“I wonder as I wander”
“Deck the docks with boughs of holly”
“An Eye on Christmas”

- Ben Casey

“Seas and Greetings” or “Seas’n Greetings”
“Ahoy Ho Ho Ho”
“I’m Dreaming of an Oriental Christmas”

- Mary Anne Thomas

I think it would be great to use “Christmas Songs” for a theme but thought “Deck the Hulls” would be appropriate as the Main Theme Song ☺. There are so many songs to choose from with which parade participants could get ideas for decorating their golf carts, cars, etc. I hope you think so, too!

“Nautical Christmas” (Imagine boats “dressed” in festive nautical Christmas decorations, golf carts adorned with lights and greenery with a nautical flair and parade participants outfitted in Nautical Christmas themed attire. And Santa riding on a boat decorated for Christmas and wearing a life vest.)

- Roxanne Parrish

“Peace on Earth”

- D and Don Wogs

“Water Wonderland”

- Jane Hartman

“A Very Dickens Christmas”
“Let it snow”
“Christmas memories”
“Twas the night before Christmas”
“The Grinch” … you can make Florence the grinch and show how Oriental came together and beat the grinch.

- Laura P

“Flo-in into Christmas”

- Ian Davis

“Santa’s Workshop”. All entries could be things made in Santa’s workshop like bikes, sleds, toys, bears, reindeer, candies, dolls, etc.

- Dottie Osmun

“Christmas Past and Present”
“Christmas celebrations throughout US History” – Eras to consider: 17th Century, Wild West, Civil War, Victorian, Jazz and Flapper era (Roaring 20s), WWI and WWII, Swinging 60s, Retro rocking like the 1980s.

“Oriental’s Parade of Trees” – Floats displaying different and outrageous themed Christmas trees.

- Pat Dixon

“Santa’s Workshop Christmas! (Post Florence)”

- Gail Midyette

Polar Express Christmas (trains, North Pole, bells, etc).
Or crabbing etc with:

- Yolanda Cristiani

Maybe holiday music in general. There is a bunch but it has probably been done here before.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”
“White Christmas”
“Winter Wonderland”

“Floating on the surge.”

- Carol Small
