Scholarship Fund
While the Oriental Cup Regatta centers on the boat racing, the
event was started in 1989 as a way to raise money for a scholarship
fund for Pamlico High School athletes. Every year a Scholarship
is awarded - this year’s recipient was Michael Eastwood
who graduated in June.

He was
not able to attend the event this weekend because he was playing
baseball (shortstop) for the St. Andrews College team. His mother
Susie Eastwood says he hopes to “make it in the 'bigs'”,
but is working toward a degree in sports management as well.
Over
$9,000 Raised
The 2004 Oriental Cup was a successful fundraiser to keep the
scholarship fund going. 2004 Oriental Cup Leader Paula Winston
reports that "over nine thousand dollars was raised from
the sponsors and all the events of the weekend."
