Those tiny green shoots in the hand of farmer Al Spruill end in one grain of rice each – Carolina Gold Rice. Spruill and his business partner Tommy Wheeler have 120 acres of the grain growing in the county. Why? Initially – to attract ducks for hunting season. Now, it’s attracting chefs, and showing them what else Pamlico County has to offer.
