Behind the Silos Restaurant sits the Red Rooster Bar and Stage. In the warmer months, the open air venue hosts music evening weekends and the Silospalooza Music Festival. In January, the evenings are a little quieter.

Brave humans took part in the Polar Plunge Saturday at Oriental’s Miniscule Beach (officially John Bond Beach). 17 signed up, 15 went in (2 couldn’t make it). EMS was present (just in case). Thanks to thermal endurance, over 5k was raised. (click pic for more polar views)

Construction on the Net House – the building between the public restrooms and town dock #2 – is nearly complete. Wood from the original building was salvaged and used in the restoration. It lacks furniture, power, and internet, but the structure is (more or less) complete. (Click for more pictures of the Net House before and after.)

Crew on Il Gatto eye the mark dubiously. While it looks like Il Gatto is about to hit the mark, somehow she just barely missed it. The vessel was one of about 50 on the water for Sunday’s Instead of Football Regatta.

The Dragon is ready (dental pearls delicately arranged). Here, the Dragon waits with anticipation for his/her big night ahead. Rain? Not gonna stop it. The Dragon runs tonight at 8:00p and again at 11:30p. It’s all on Hodges Street near the harbor.

This New Year’s Eve, there’s a threat of rain. But the Dragon is not deterred – it will make the runs at 8p and 11:30p.

For the last two years, COVID caused the Dragon to have an alternative plan (the Dragon was run on a trailer though Oriental to help keep crowds sparse and people safe). This New Year’s Eve, it the traditional Dragon Run returns to Hodges Street. On December 31, the Dragon Runs at 8p and 11:30p.
