Every October small boat enthusiasts come from all over the country (and beyond), for a gathering at B&B Yacht Desgns on the Bay River, just outside of Bayboro. It’s called the Messabout, and it’s this weekend.
Skip Bailey passed away Oct 12. He was 77. This 2017 photo captures Skip with a few of his iconic features. A Bailey Island Maine hat. A Cigarette Boat t-shirt. And Skip, a former lobster fisherman, is eating a lobster roll (he had convinced Dave Sargent at M&Ms to offer lobster rolls). Skip’s life story is here.

Nope, that’s not a big fiddle. It’s not even a small bass. That be a cello. Turns out you can play folky with one of them there fancy orchestral instruments. It even works on a porch. Scott Peters (Nashville) and Sam Amos (Winston-Salem) are together called Mild Goose Chase.. They play at the Ol’ Front Porch Music Festival this weekend.

They came to the town dock. It was marked 2 hours max stay. They stayed over a week. Wednesday night, MV “Sea Daddy”, hailing port Lowland NC, came and towed the two would-be sailing vessels away (SV “Acceptance” & SV “Bacilo”). Last seen bound north.
