MV Mariner III off Oriental | November 1, 2024
At sunrise Friday morning, MV Mariner III, anchored off Oriental. She was launched in 1926 in Winslow, Washington. Mariner III is 122 ft, built of 3” teak planks. Today she is a charter vessel, spending summers at Chelsea Pier in New York, and winters at West Palm Beach. She and her crew stopped at Oriental for two nights on their way south. Scott Peters (Nashville) and Sam Amos (Winston-Salem) are together called Mild Goose Chase.. They play at the Ol’ Front Porch Music Festival this weekend.

1939 Trumpy Innisfail | September 22, 2024
On Core Creek Saturday, MV Innisfail., southbound. She’s a 1939 Mathis-Trumpy motor yacht. Upon launch, Innisfail was commandeered for WW2 shore-patrol duty by the US Navy. Her deck had cannons, her stern a depth-charge rack. After the war Innisfail became a presidential yacht, used by presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy. She was sold to a private owner in 1965. Now, the 91 ft vessel plys the ICW, leaving happy eyes along the way. (click pic for more views)
