Holly Martin Talks Sailing | March 18, 2019

Holly Martin grew up on a sailboat, and now the 27 year old sailor plans to begin a circumnavigation (starting in Oriental) later this month. Holly spoke to a rapt group of some 40 sailors Sunday at Town Hall about her life and future plans. The slide behind Holly in this photo is of a whale, taken in the Antarctic where she has been working recently.

Endurance Seafood Prepares for Re-Opening | March 13, 2019

Endurance Seafood, Keith Bruno’s family business, was wiped out by Hurricane Florence. Bruno has been busy rebuilding, and redesigning, his operation for when the next storm hits. Tomorrow, Tideland Electric will restore power to his dock. Before the end of the month, Bruno expects to be delivering fresh caught fish from his docks once again. Hodges Street over the Years | March 12, 2019

Recognize this road? You may. It was taken soon after construction on the dirt road, around 1918. This is Hodges Street. Before this, boats would make their way into the harbor and through what is now the duck pond, to Main Street. At the east end of Main St was the “Red Store” and at the west end was a livery stable, if you needed land transport. Click for the bigger picture and more views of Hodges Street through the years.

TownDock reader Eifel Kreutz noticed a huge column of smoke across the river while out for a run along South Ave Thursday afternoon. He sent his drone up for a better look and provided this photo. Frost left at Lou Mac Park from yesterday morning’s unexpected snow fall. Repair efforts will soon begin on the damaged Lou Mac pier – last night, the Board of Commissioners authorized Town Manager Diane Miller to award the repair contract before the next Town Meeting on April 2.
