Nine extra feet of water from Hurricane Isabel invaded the area Thursday. Starting Friday - folks have been focusing on cleaning up. Some homes just had minimal damage in lower storage areas - but many were badly flooded with extensive loss of belongings.

The lower floor of the Oriental Marina Motel flooded - and furniture was brought out to take advantage of Saturday's clear & dry air.

Water was up to the window sills of the Pamlico News Thursday and the
evidence of that is now outside the windows. Publisher Frieda Hudson spent
Friday and Saturday hauling stacks of waterlogged papers and waterlogged
computer monitors out. As it turned out, she saved the newspaper's
computers by putting them on a raised floor area inside. The monitors now
out on the street had not been working anyway and were only being saved in
hopes of getting them fixed some day. Around town many people issued a
similar refrain -- that Hurricane Isabel made them clean up and get rid of a
lot of things they really didn't need.
The water will not stop Frieda and her crew from publishing next weeks Pamlico News - look for hurricane coverage in The Pamlico News.
