Oriental’s Planning Board holds meetings twice this week for workshops to “Review/Revise Permissible Use Table and Consider Other Minor Adjustments to GMO.”

Oriental’s Table of Permissible Uses spells out what activities – such as multi-family housing, boat yard, tourist accommodations – can take place on a lot. It depends on which of Oriental’s 5 development districts the lot is in. For example, in Oriental’s commercial districts, MU and MU1 property owners can use their buildings for short term rentals simply by getting a Land Use Permit from the Town Manager. Those in the residential R2 and R3 need a Special Use Permit – involving a public hearing and decision by the Town Board, while in the R1, vacation rentals are not permitted at all.
