The Cycle NC Spring Weekend begins today, with the first cyclists arriving in town. As many as 700 cyclists will be on the roads this weekend, roads that Oriental’s Julia Tingle rides regularly. When we caught up with her one recent day, Julia was on the 49th of a 50 mile ride. A retired school teacher, she only began biking 4 years ago, inspired by the cyclists who rolled in to Oriental for the last leg of the Cycle Across NC. Julia got a bike, and started riding. She has since taken part in three of those trans-Tarheelia rides herself, covering hundreds of miles in a week. And yes, she will be out there with 700 other bicyclists this weekend, riding thru and around her hometown.
