1969 A/H Sprite Mk IV
This is a pretty car which needs a clutch replaced and engine oil leak issues addressed. I am 84, got rid of my engine crane when I moved last year, and would prefer to not do this job. But I have detailed notes from doing it before.
The previous owner replaced the hydraulic system, electric wiring, brakes and had it painted BRG with lacquer. When I bought it, the engine left a cloud of oil smoke behind that you could not see through.
I am an ex-racer and let that influence the rebuild. The engine is bored .040, has 10.5:1 compression pistons, ported and flow-optimized head per Dave Vizard’s book, roller rockers, Kent MD-286 rally cam W/ 7500 RPM redline, electronic ignition, oil cooler, aluminum radiator, electric fan, and a free-flow SS exhaust system. It’s strong, wants to run, and has about 4 engine hours of runtime. The clutch got oiled and slips too much for it to be driven further right now.
My mistake was to cut the oil breather tube off the cam chain cover (and close it up) because , before the rebuild, it was putting a lot of oil into the carbs. However, this change caused the post-rebuild oil leak because it removed a source of vacuum into the crankcase. Reinstating the original system with a catch can in the middle will be an improved fix.
It has a Datsun 210 or 310 5-speed transmission and runs 60MPH at 2300 RPM.
I just replaced the differential oil seal and the fuel tank.
Oh, and it has a new top in its original Moss Motors box. The car cover is from an A-H 3000.
Due to moves coming up, I would prefer to have you buy it and take this on ($7000?) or if you do good work of this type let me know cost and possible scheduling.
