top by Brantley’s on a Friday morning and you’ll likely see a card game underway. Eight ladies, intently focused on the hands they’ve been dealt. There’s no cash strewn across the table, although some have pondered that grits and eggs may be wagered.

Artist Laura Turgeon calls them the Friday Morning Ladies.
