The concept of a bank robbery in Oriental still seems surreal. That happens in other places, not here. But Monday at 4:04p, an armed robbery took place at Oriental’s only bank, First Citizens on Broad St.Today, the bank is closed. Employees are receiving counseling. The SBI has been brought in to assist the investigation. The Oriental Police Dept has released photos from the robbery, showing two hooded men brandishing a large caliber pistol. They were in and out of the bank in one minute and 16 seconds. Cash was taken, the amount not yet disclosed.
Oriental Police Captain Dwaine Moore says he believes there are three suspects – the two seen in the bank and a third, who was the driver. Eye witness reports state it was a late-model silver car with out-of-state plates (believed to be NY). Anyone with leads on the investigation is asked to call Oriental Police at 252-249-0369.
