Sailors from the Oriental area and NC State participated in the 2017 Greens Creek Challenge. Thirteen boats were on the water and 19 sailors competed in three divisions: FJ, Sunfish, and Laser. A rubber chicken was quietly placed along the course for some lucky sailor to find. Two races were held: one in the morning, one in the afternoon.Lining up at the start.Grace Evans’ lawn served as headquarters for the event. The Bean and Silos provided breakfast and lunch for organizers and participants. The students were housed in the community by the Dixon family, the Cox family, and the Wheeler family. Sail Pack (NC State) was sponsored by Joe and Lynn Mattea, Harry and Finola Corbett, and Bill and Camilla Wheeler.
